Flood Risk Management Plans

Where will they be produced?

We will produce Flood Risk Management Plans for all of Wales, covering flooding from main rivers, the sea and reservoirs.  The Environment Agency will perform the same role as us for England and we will work together as partners. Under the Flood Risk Regulations, Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs) are responsible for producing Flood Risk Management Plans in Flood Risk Areas.

How will they be produced?

We are currently considering the approach to producing Flood Risk Management Plans. They will largely be based on information available in existing plans including:

• Catchment Flood Management Plans
• Shoreline Management Plans
• Local Flood Risk Management Strategies

The Environment Agency consulted on the approach to Flood Risk Management plans on behalf of England and Wales from August to October 2012.  The consultation received over 80 responses from National organisations, Risk Management Authorities, private companies and individuals.  The responses are published on the Environment Agency website (Consultation on the approach to Flood Risk Management Plans in England and Wales).

Working together with Welsh Government, Defra and the Environment Agency, we have considered the feedback from the consultation and set out a proposed way forward for the development of Flood Risk Management Plans.  We have also considered feedback from the consultation on working together to deliver river basin management.
