Apply for a licence to move and keep an invasive alien species of special concern
Licence to move and keep an invasive alien species
To move or keep an animal listed as a species of special concern under retained EU regulations in Wales you must apply to Natural Resources Wales for a licence.
There are some exceptions where you will not need to apply for a licence:
- to keep and / or move a companion animal (an animal owned as a pet before it was listed as a species of special concern) unless it is being kept or moved by a facility (such as a rescue centre)
- if you wish to rehome a companion animal, the new owner will not need to apply for a licence if there is evidence that it was kept before listing
- transporting a listed species to facilities in the context of eradication
Find GOV.UK guidance on the rules for animals of special concern.
If you got the animal after it was listed you must contact Natural Resources Wales for guidance.
