The role

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our Integrated Workforce team, which works in the Plas Gwendraeth depot in Cross Hands.

In this rewarding, hands-on role, you’ll join a dedicated team that takes pride in its purpose. You’ll carry out a range of essential, practical tasks across Natural Resources Wales (NRW) sites — from flood-risk infrastructure to forestry sites and National Nature Reserves — helping us keep communities safe and enable nature to flourish.

This is a physically active, predominantly outdoor role — you’ll work in all weathers and frequently in challenging, remote locations alongside a small team of 2–4 colleagues. As a key member of the team, you’ll be required to operate a variety of hand tools, such as hooks, scythes, and powered tools such as strimmer's and pole saws and other specialized plant such as a robomower and woodchipper. You will also fulfil the important role of a banksman by supervising the safe movement of plant on a site.

Given the nature and location of our work, we are looking for someone who is self-motivated, safety-conscious, confident in working in or near water, comfortable using tools and equipment, an effective communicator, works well within a team environment and confident with using basic IT. Full training will be provided to help you succeed.

Additionally, you’ll be part of a 24-hour emergency response team, participating in a standby rota and delivering crucial assistance during flood events or other incident responses.

We’re looking for someone with a positive, can-do attitude, and a willingness to learn. You’ll need to be comfortable using machinery and basic IT tools, and ideally live within 30 minutes of the depot, so you can provide fast response times when needed.

At NRW, you’ll be joining a team that’s passionate about the environment and proud of their work. You’ll receive full training, support with gaining licences and qualifications, and opportunities for personal growth in a role that’s as rewarding as it is important.

If you enjoy physical outdoor work, want to contribute to climate resilience, and are ready to be part of a team that makes a visible difference—we want to hear from you.

The role follows a 9-day working pattern (with every second Friday off), and a badged vehicle is provided for travel to and from site. A full driving licence is essential. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

To make an informal enquiry about this role, please contact Jamie Neil Davies , email -  jamie.davies@cyfoethnaturiolcymru.gov.uk

Interviews will be held face to face with a location to be confirmed.

Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check. Appointments are normally made within 4 to 8 weeks of the closing date.

What you will do

  • You will provide a manual labour service for the maintenance of NRW assets which include flood risk assets and NRW managed land.

  • You will be part of an incident response team.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
  • Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy, together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post
